I think it is a good idea to change the color of the tentacles to red. Anything that indicates it is in pain and reacting to the player's hit. I will give some feedback that may help. I recommend not doing kickstarter. Too much risk. If the game is not delivered, you will be held accountable by 100's of angry investors.
